Nothing Better

Is there anything more hopeful, more comforting,
on an afternoon flecked with rain,
than the ring of blue flame underneath the kettle?

Inner Kid

"I don't know anyone who likes colors as much as you do," my boyfriend recently said to me, probably because I had just exclaimed, "Colors!!" or something similar. That was one of the best compliments I've ever gotten. Thanks, honey!

I feel that my exuberant love of colors is a good indication that my inner four-year-old is alive and well. My boss mentioned that he was taking his toddler daughters to the Crayola factory, and I asked, "Are adults allowed to go on the tour just, you know, on their own? I'd like to see the crayons being made. Are there, you know, crayon samples that maybe I'd get?" And just a few weeks ago I sorted out my box of 96 crayons that has been a personal treasure since sixth grades. Sigh. Colors.

I think that the other sign that my inner kid is alive and well is my love for BUGS! So colors and bugs together ... delight! I had a real treat today by spending a few minutes in the garden outside my office. Being open to the wonders of colors and bugs is true joy to me.

Bubbles

Oh, what an enchanted evening in the park tonight! Someone had set out a big blue tarp, buckets full of detergent, and sets of sticks linked with loops of rope - all the tools for making giant bubbles. Bubbles bigger than people, bubbles that waved and twisted like New Year's dragon puppets. A whole bunch of people were gathering around and playing with the bubbles together, admiring each other's creations and giving advice. It was so much fun and so magical. Who is the mystery person who brought us together and enchanted our walks in the park?
